Getting started

  1. Double-click the downloaded .msi and follow the steps.
  2. In File Explorer, right-click a folder of images, choose “Threebrook Pack: Compress (to a .iisz package)” and click Compress. On Windows 11 it’s under “Show more options”.
  3. Double-click the new .iisz to look at the images inside; right-click it and choose “Threebrook Pack: Extract here” to restore them.

The app isn’t code-signed yet. If Windows says it “protected your PC”, click “More info”, then “Run anyway”.

What’s new in 0.3.0

  • First public release. Use it like ZIP: in File Explorer, right-click a folder to pack it into one .iisz package, right-click a BMP, TIFF or RAW to compress it to a .iis, and right-click to extract.
  • Images are compressed losslessly as images (JPEG-LS), and extracted files are byte-for-byte identical to the originals. Every compression and extraction is checked with SHA-256; on a mismatch you get an error and no file is left behind. Files that wouldn’t get smaller (JPG, PNG and so on) are stored as they are.
  • Double-click a .iisz to browse it like a folder and click an image to view it. The viewer zooms, has 16-bit window/level and Bayer preview, and also opens ordinary BMP, TIFF, RAW, PNG and JPEG files.
  • Thumbnails in File Explorer: a .iis shows the picture itself, a .iisz a mosaic of its first four images.
  • Headerless .raw files get their width, height and pixel format detected automatically (8, 10, 12 and 16-bit, and packed formats).
  • Command-line tool iis-cli: pack, unpack, list, verify and more, for batch scripts.
  • Chinese or English follows your Windows display language, and light or dark follows Windows. Double-clicking installs it for the current user without admin rights; it can also be deployed silently for all users.
